It is clear from this YouTube link, that the gameplay is likely to be more 'arcade' than realistic simulation, but, I think most Ice fans will agree, the very fact that it is featured in a mainstream console and PC game presents a major coup for the Sport, and will hopefully serve to generate interest in Ice Speedway from a new generation of Extreme Sports fans. I.S.U.K understands that Winter Sports 2012 will not be available for purchase until 20th January 2012, but, should the above have been enough to whet your appetite to such an extent, the game can be pre-ordered now at either Amazon or Play.com. 2012 marks two milestones for Motorclub Assen & Omstrenken
The club, who promote Motor Sport events at the World Famous Dutch TT circuit, and the Annual Ice Racing event at the nearby Stadium De Bonte Wever, celebrates it’s 90th Birthday. It’s also the 40 years since the club introduced Ice Racing to Holland. They have staged racing every season at the Stadium since 1972, and it is without doubt the most successful weekend’ meeting within the Sport. The members of the club who organise and promote the event are well respected within Ice Racing Circles, and the meetings are popular with both riders and fans. To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Ice Racing at the track, the club have announced that they will stage two weekends of racing to mark the occasion. Over the weekend of March 10th/11th 2012, the UEM have named Assen as the venue for the European Championships. This event has rarely been held outside Russia, so it is something of a coup for the club to stage it. The Semi Final will be held on Saturday night, with the Final to be held on Sunday Afternoon. The following weekend, the FIM World Championship Final 3 will be held on Friday 16th/ Saturday 17th March with both rounds being evening meetings. Club Secretary Mieke Bremer said, “When we introduced Ice Racing to Assen to mark the Club’s 50th Birthday, many people didn’t think it would last. But here we are, 40 years later and still drawing huge crowds. “This is a fitting reward for the club. We wanted to mark our 40 years of Ice Racing with something special. I started negotiating with the UEM after our meetings in March. I am pleased to announce that they have agreed to the event being staged here. “In the week between the European and World Championships, the Ice will be kept up to scratch, but we hope to stage practice sessions, and try-outs for new riders who’d like to become Ice Racers.” Tickets for both events will be on sale shortly and can be bought in advance from the Club’s website www.ijsspeedway-assen.nl where there are links to the ticket shop in Dutch, German & English |
